Great Parenting with Emotional Coaching
For the final edition on good parenting tips for parents who want to be THE BEST! I am going to speak on Emotional Coaching, which was made famous by a renowned psychologist Dr Gottman. . Please watch and learn from Dr Gottman in this interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmsDTT3xgjo.
It is very difficult to control our natural emotions. We are going to get angry. We are going to get frustrated. We are going to want to lash out. BUT we cannot and must not do this. We have nine months to try and prepare ourselves for this new little being, who will come in and add to our earthly experience. Use that time well. We have a lifetime to raise them in love and kindness.

Make a conscious decision on how you are going to parent. If you are fortunate enough to be in a loving marriage, sit and discuss with your partner the ins and outs, the dos and don'ts. Be prepared for the shifting sands of a maturing person and know you need to adjust as they grow. If you are on your own- YOU ARE NOT! Find your emotional support, may it be best friends, parents, aunts or uncles- you need support to do this right. It is much more difficult as a single parent, but it can be done. Prayer and the Holy Spirit are great partners in the relationship with your offspring.
Dr Gottman talks about the Five Steps of Emotion Coaching:

Children are natural learners. Use these steps to LISTEN, VALIDATE and RESPECT your children. It is very important to them. Make the decision to always walk with God in the rearing of them. Keep the Holy Ghost on speed dial as you navigate these highways and seemingly treacherous byways of successful parenting.
It is never too late or too early to start this process. When the baby is still in your womb and you are playing Bach and Beethoven to grow those brain cells, use this time to visualize your parenting. Create that successful space in your mind and always remember to BREATHE! If your child is whatever age and you are only hearing of this now- change your behaviour and become the Mother or Father you have the innate capacity to become. With God and Jesus Christ, all is possible.
